Peer Tutor

Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

As a Peer Tutor - English, you will provide individualized tutoring in specified disciplines and integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning. You will work with students to develop a systemic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses. You will also participate in professional development offerings, meet with Academic Skills Advisors to plan academic support for students, and refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.

• Demonstrated experience in the subject area assigned to tutor with at least a "B" or better average in content area
• Peer Tutor must have at least sophomore standing, be knowledgeable of content area, and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to work with a diverse student population
• Ability to adjust tutoring methods as needed to meet various learning styles
• Ability to work well with staff and students
• Ability to integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student's potential for academic progress
