Director of Media Outreach

The Director of Earned Media will play a critical role in developing and executing the organization's multi-tiered earned media strategy, helping to elevate the Lawyers' Committee's position as a leading organization on racial justice.
This position requires a deep commitment to racial justice and social justice, as well as strong initiative and drive. The ideal candidate will have a track record of success and impact as a media professional, with the ability to work quickly and creatively to develop and implement effective media campaigns.
The Director of Earned Media will work closely with the Vice President of Communications to identify and pursue opportunities for media coverage, and will be responsible for developing and executing media plans, managing media relations, and tracking and reporting on media outcomes.
This role requires a strong understanding of the media landscape and a proven ability to build relationships with reporters and editors. The ideal candidate will also have excellent writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to translate complex concepts for broad audiences.
The Director of Earned Media will be responsible for mentoring and managing staff members focused on media relations and earned media, and will work closely with other members of the communications team to achieve the organization's goals.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute the organization's earned media strategy to position the Lawyers' Committee as a thought leader on racial justice issues.
- Mentor and manage staff members focused on media relations and earned media.
- Craft and implement high-impact media campaigns to promote the organization's work and values.
- Proactively seek out and cultivate interview and speaking opportunities for staff to showcase the organization's work and expertise.
- Identify and secure media training opportunities for staff.
- Support and work closely with staff to elevate the organization's voice and key messages.
- Monitor and report on media outcomes to inform future strategy.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, or communications preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in press, communications, or media.
- Established relationships with reporters and editors.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Ability to translate complex concepts for broad audiences.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Salary: $130,000-$150,000 annually.
