Position Overview:
AAA Life Insurance Company is seeking a skilled Life Insurance Underwriter to assess, evaluate, and categorize risks associated with life insurance applications. This role involves making critical decisions regarding the approval, modification, or rejection of risks based on an individual's medical history, physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest, and other relevant information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interprets Medical Information Bureau (MIB) codes and prepares reports for the MIB, requiring a thorough understanding of MIB code meanings and procedures.
- Reviews life insurance applications with face amounts up to $1,000,000 for acceptance or denial.
- Ensures that all necessary information to meet underwriting requirements is requested, including re-examinations, special exams, medical reports, database research, investigations, and laboratory studies.
- Provides support for contract modifications and reinstatement underwriting as needed.
- Creates training presentations for underwriters or sales agents to aid in their development.
Important Notes:
- Mortgage underwriting experience is not applicable.
- Average call volume is approximately 4-6 calls per day, with regular late-night shifts occurring once every two weeks and Friday night shifts rotated about once per quarter.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: 2-year college degree in Finance, Business, or Economics, or equivalent work experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in the Life Insurance industry, including sales experience or strong support and training in life insurance sales.
- Strong knowledge of life and annuity sales is highly preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Familiarity with insurance system applications and data.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
- Self-motivated team player with a results-driven mindset.
- Demonstrates independence, creativity, and initiative in pursuing new projects and opportunities.
