POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver exceptional direct and indirect patient care. You will coordinate patient care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

Effective communication regarding the patient's clinical condition is essential, allowing for prompt and accurate responses to changes in their status or treatment outcomes. You will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population served.

As a professional, you will promote the nursing profession and engage in collegial support and interactions.


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing program and hold current licensure in the State of Connecticut. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, along with maintaining clinical competency throughout employment.


COMPETENCIES:

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required, along with basic computer proficiency.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  3. Assess and manage pain effectively, utilizing appropriate tools and educating patients and families on pain management strategies.
  4. Develop and adjust individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, involving patients and families in goal-setting.
  5. Adhere to the five rights of medication administration, minimizing the risk of errors while demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use.
  6. Deliver patient care in a safe environment that fosters positive outcomes, ensuring accurate reporting of patient conditions for seamless care transitions.
  7. Document nursing processes and patient responses promptly using the designated tools.
  8. Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
  9. Create teaching plans based on identified learning needs, evaluating the effectiveness of education provided, with family involvement as appropriate.
  10. Exhibit autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards, pursuing ongoing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
  11. Display knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifying dysrhythmias and responding according to ACLS protocols.
  12. Demonstrate proficiency in airway management and related procedures, utilizing necessary equipment effectively.
  13. Provide care for patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
  14. Assist physicians with treatments and special procedures, maintaining aseptic technique in both ICU and other departments.
  15. Assess and care for patients in the post-anesthesia recovery phase.
