Job Overview

SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner specializing in Hematology/Oncology to collaborate with our attending physicians in managing the inpatient hematology oncology unit at KIDZ Medical Services. Operating under indirect supervision and in partnership with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, this role encompasses a wide array of nurse practitioner services in accordance with established protocols and policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts initial patient assessments and gathers comprehensive medical histories.
  • Documents and communicates the care plan, ensuring thorough preparation and screening of patients.
  • Participates in daily inpatient rounds with attending physicians, fellows, and residents.
  • Evaluates and manages assigned patients, including performing physical examinations and maintaining progress notes.
  • Issues orders for medications, laboratory tests, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Interprets results from laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
  • Documents discharge summaries, prescriptions, and necessary referrals upon patient discharge.
  • Educates patients on post-discharge care instructions.
  • Provides emotional support and educational resources to patients and their families.
  • Triages patients based on the severity of their conditions and symptoms.
  • Utilizes established guidelines for clinical decision-making and patient management.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient and family rights.
  • Adheres to safety protocols as outlined by organizational policies.
  • Offers guidance and education to fellows and rotating pediatric residents.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in current practices.
  • Ensures compliance with legal standards, including patient confidentiality and risk management.
  • Exhibits professionalism and courtesy in interactions with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
  • Adapts to varying patient flow and operational demands while maintaining high-quality care.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory standards relevant to the Oncology Institute.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Nurse Practitioner license in Florida.
  • Current certifications in BLS and PALS.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • Ability to understand and follow established protocols and procedures.
  • Proven ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work with a diverse team in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent documentation and charting abilities.
  • Commitment to high standards of care and excellence.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow efficiently.
