Job Summary

As a Tool Management Specialist at Rolls-Royce, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining a wide range of tools and equipment in a heavy-duty machining environment. This includes adjusting and aligning tools, modifying systems, and performing root cause analysis of inventory inaccuracies. You will also be responsible for developing and recommending best practices and methods for improving accuracy, efficiency, and speed of tooling, machining, and inventory control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain a wide range of tools and equipment in a heavy-duty machining environment.
  • Adjust and align tools, modify systems, and perform root cause analysis of inventory inaccuracies.
  • Develop and recommend best practices and methods for improving accuracy, efficiency, and speed of tooling, machining, and inventory control systems.
  • Assist in the sale of scrap tooling that has a potential market value.
  • Provide training on tool setting, demonstrate equipment operations, and work and safety procedures to new and existing employees.
  • Advise operators of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with tooling equipment and components.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Identify and reduce non-value-added work.
  • Perform special projects as may be required and maintain on-the-job flexibility by providing support in assembly and other production-related areas.
Requirements:
  • Completion of apprenticeship or training program or 3 years previous experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial tooling management in a heavy-duty machining environment.
  • Basic knowledge in a variety of machines and tools such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, taps or dies, and hoists, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory control systems, manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
  • Intermediate mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, carpentry, lubrications, and repair of production machines.
  • Basic ability to interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and the analytical ability to complete very complex problems.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Siemens 840D CNC machine tool control, Modicon, Allen Bradley, RS Logic 500 & 5000, and CNC programming applications.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and the ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Intermediate knowledge in skills such as welding, pipe fitting, lubrications, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, carpentry, and use of tool room machines.
  • Basic interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers and other tradesmen.
  • Basic organizational, planning, and follow-up skills.
  • Basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required.
  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty diesel engine manufacturing.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate hoists and power vehicle licenses (Flatbed, Hi-Lo, & Mule) when necessary.
  • Knowledge of MTU products, policies, and procedures.
