Position Overview:

The Risk Manager will spearhead risk management initiatives within Bechtel's Nuclear, Security, and Environmental Global Business Unit. This role involves identifying and assessing project risks for upcoming ventures and determining the optimal mix of risk retention and transfer strategies, including insurance. The Risk Manager will engage with clients, insurers, partner brokers, and senior management throughout the project lifecycle, from proposal to completion and any subsequent claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Global Business Unit partners in contract negotiations to secure necessary protections through risk transfer and retention strategies.
  • Formulate alternative insurance strategies to address client requirements.
  • Propose language and provisions for liability and insurance matters in contracts and proposals.
  • Assess insurable risks associated with prospective projects and evaluate risk financing options.
  • Review bid documents to ensure adequate protection measures are in place.
  • Facilitate enrollment in controlled insurance programs for relevant projects.
  • Provide guidance on premium reporting, accident reporting, and claims procedures.
  • Offer insights on insurance coverages and solutions for risk-related challenges.
  • Prepare cost breakdowns for insurance programs to assist in project estimations.
  • Coordinate with various project personnel regarding insurance arrangements.
  • Manage interactions between Bechtel and external stakeholders concerning insurance programs.
  • Maintain awareness of insurance industry trends and market conditions.
  • Implement appropriate insurance programs for government projects.
  • Support the Head of Risk Management in ensuring compliance with regulations and organizational policies.
  • Contribute to the training and development of department personnel.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Risk Management or a related field from an accredited institution is required, along with 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of applicable work experience. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction insurance sector and government contracting is essential.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong commitment to quality, ethics, and compliance.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective risk management strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to and drive change.
  • Experience in project contractual negotiations and administration.
  • Knowledge of complex builders risk insurance and controlled insurance programs.
  • Familiarity with the Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designation is preferred.
