Radiologic Technologist-CT Specialist

As a Radiologic Technologist-CT, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care by applying x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Your expertise will be essential in performing computed tomography and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomical images for interpretation by licensed practitioners.
Duties and Essential Functions- Verify orders and patient information prior to examination, obtain patient's clinical history, and communicate with patients or family members.
- Operate computed tomographic equipment and accessories, demonstrating knowledge and competency in CT techniques, including medical center, radiology, and CT policies, CT scanner manuals, safety table/gantry operation, scanning procedures, image storage retrieval, image manipulations, image processing, and contrast media administration.
- Perform examinations by analyzing all relative information to select proper scanning protocols, editing scan protocols as needed to facilitate the highest possible diagnostic value, and positioning patients to best demonstrate anatomic areas of interest.
- Accommodate patient ability, comfort, and modesty, immobilizing patients as required, and observing to recognize changes in patient behavior indicating patient distress.
- Evaluate images for technical quality, manipulate display parameters, and provide CDs, ensuring proper patient identification is recorded on each image.
- Practice principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others at all times.
- Identify and administer contrast media as prescribed by licensed practitioners, perform diagnostic testing on equipment, and promptly report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors or radiology administrative directors.
Minimum requirements include:
- Graduation from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited radiography program or equivalent.
- Maintenance of active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
- Maintenance of active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.
- Achievement and maintenance of American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced ARRT certification in CT achieved within one year of start.
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.
Physical DemandsOccasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting), frequently required to walk and move about, operate a computer and other equipment, and use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
