About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Culinary Professional to join our team as a Sous Chef at The George Washington University. As a key member of our Culinary Department, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and presentation of diverse dishes, driving innovation in daily menu offerings, and leading the production and execution of catering events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborative Leadership: Partner with the Executive Chef to manage cost controls, oversee expenditures, and ensure financial efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Menu Innovation: Assist in the planning and creation of seasonal and innovative menus that captivate the university community and exceed expectations.
  • Event Execution: Lead the production and execution of catering events, delivering exceptional culinary experiences for university events, functions, and special occasions.
  • Program Development: Play a key role in the rollout of new culinary programs, working in tandem with the university's marketing and culinary teams to ensure successful implementation and guest satisfaction.
  • Team Supervision: Mentor and guide hourly associates, fostering a positive and productive kitchen environment that encourages creativity and excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary Expertise: Progressive culinary and kitchen management experience, with a strong background in high-volume, complex foodservice operations.
  • Catering Experience: Experience in catering is highly desirable, showcasing your ability to manage and deliver large-scale events.
  • Institutional Cooking: Experience with institutional and batch cooking is a plus, demonstrating your versatility in various culinary settings.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of food and catering trends, with a strong focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and Internet navigation. ServSafe certification is highly desirable.
