Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and courteous Public Transportation Specialist to operate transit buses in the Hartford area. As a key member of our team, you will provide excellent customer service, collect fares, and maintain a safe and efficient transportation experience for our passengers.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is $37,000-$45,000, depending on experience. After completing an 6-8 week training program, the starting rate will increase to $26.57 per hour, with a progression to $35.43 after 5 years. Additionally, we offer a range of benefits, including competitive pay, opportunities for advancement, and a supportive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate transit buses safely and efficiently
  • Collect fares and verify valid passes and identification cards
  • Receive and transmit communications over a two-way radio
  • Coordinate passenger transfers and report schedule delays
  • Complete and file reports, including accidents, detours, vehicle inspections, fares, and passes
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 21 years old and valid CDL (Class A or B)
  • P (Passenger) Endorsement and one of the following: S (School Bus), V (Student Transportation Vehicle), F (Taxi, Livery, Service Bus, Motor Bus or Motor Coach), or A (Activity Vehicle)
  • Air brake qualified (no L restriction)
  • No more than 1 moving violation in the last 3 years
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a position requiring excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts
  • Must not have outside employment that interferes with employment at CT Transit
  • Ability to pass DOT physical exam and meet physical requirements of the position
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and comprehend basic English
