Patient Service Associate

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Service Associate to provide advanced clerical support and coordination of functions for the effective operation and administration of our Gastroenterology office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Register patients, update insurance information, and schedule visits to ensure seamless coordination of patient appointment scheduling.
- Discuss financial obligations and explain regulatory forms, while answering patient questions and concerns.
- Work in multiple systems during patient-facing interactions and telephone call receipts to complete accurate registration and support clinical workflow.
- Support departmental plans, policies, and procedures, as well as initiatives within the scope of their role.
- Represent Albany Medical Center and uphold the ideals and principles of the department, practice, hospital, and center.
- Interact with a diverse patient population, utilizing the electronic medical record to maintain patient records via registration and scanning processes.
- Be knowledgeable of state and government agencies to provide proper consents for patients who are wards of the state, working with facilities to obtain necessary consents from patient proxies.
- Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals, and prior authorizations for patient schedule visits as needed.
- Communicate professionally and timely with all parties, including providers, patients, clinical care teams, and insurance companies.
- Answer incoming phone calls and direct them appropriately to team members.
- Convey a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
- 2-3 years of office experience or one year of related experience in a medical practice - preferred
- Experience using an electronic health record and Microsoft Office - a plus
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to multi-task in a high patient volume unit
- Ability to learn and utilize resources
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to review information and draw appropriate conclusions
- Good judgment and ability to problem-solve; escalate issues as needed
- Strong teamwork skills and work ethic
Salary Range: $18.00/hr - $23.79/hr
