Lead Air Traffic Control Operations Specialist

As an Operations Supervisor within a terminal facility, you will be tasked with overseeing and managing operations in designated areas of responsibility. This role includes providing direct supervision to a team of both Developmental and Certified Professional Controllers.
Eligibility
- Current federal employees of this agency.
This position is available exclusively to current permanent FAA employees within the ATO.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will supervise a team of Air Traffic Control Specialists responsible for executing air traffic control duties within a specified geographic area.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delegating work assignments to subordinate staff.
- Establishing work priorities and schedules.
- Approving leave requests and providing guidance on work-related and administrative issues.
- Evaluating employee performance and recommending performance ratings.
- Addressing and resolving employee complaints, escalating serious issues to higher management when necessary.
- Identifying training needs and facilitating developmental opportunities for team members.
- Implementing strategies to enhance productivity and improve work quality.
- Adjusting staffing levels and operational procedures based on higher-level resource decisions.
- Setting and tracking goals and objectives for the area.
You will also play a crucial role in promoting diversity and EEO policies within your team, ensuring a fair and equitable work environment.
The Operations Supervisor will report directly to the Operations Manager, with performance evaluations based on the successful achievement of assigned program objectives.
Qualifications
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Submission of an SF50 is required.
- Participation in Designated or Random Drug Testing is necessary.
- A recent SF-50 must be submitted.
- Online application via the designated system is required.
- A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be applicable.
To qualify, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have held an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or above position for at least one year.
- Be facility rated or area certified for a minimum of one year at an ATS facility.
- Have served in a MSS position for at least one year in an ATS facility.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of the vacancy announcement. Candidates will be assessed based on four Managerial Selection Factors, requiring detailed narrative responses regarding relevant experience.
