COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST (SPEECH THERAPIST)

Compensation: $35.00/hour

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Communication Specialist will assess all patients/residents admitted to the facility and will provide written recommendations for a rehabilitation program to the attending physician when necessary. Following the physician's directives, the Communication Specialist will implement services and programs addressing speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. This role involves assessing, evaluating, and documenting patient/resident progress as required. Participation in all departmental meetings is expected. The Communication Specialist aims to assist patients/residents in regaining and maintaining function following illness, injury, or disability. Additionally, the role includes conducting in-service training and orientation programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Exhibits knowledge, skills, and techniques essential for caring for residents with needs such as dysphagia, neurological conditions, infectious diseases, and cognitive impairments.
  • Conducts evaluations, formulates short- and long-term goals for Speech Language Pathology, assesses rehabilitation potential, and develops/executes treatment plans.
  • Engages in inter and intradepartmental training initiatives.
  • Maintains precise clinical records, patient/resident charts, and care plans while collaborating with the attending physician regarding patient/resident status and progress.
  • Evaluates patient/resident progress, advises the nursing team, and adjusts care plans as necessary.
  • Provides relevant education to patients/residents and their families.
  • Ensures that all rehabilitation aides are sufficiently trained to meet the needs of the patients/residents.
  • Engages in professional communication.
  • Adheres to HIPAA privacy, security, confidentiality standards, and residents' rights.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree in Speech Language Pathology with a Certificate of Clinical Competence and a current state license is required.
  • Ability to perform tasks to established standards of excellence is essential.
  • Maintains license/registration/certification requirements, including the necessary continuing education units in accordance with professional standards.
  • Experience in skilled nursing facilities, subacute care, ICU, and acute rehabilitation is preferred.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the vision and mission of the organization.
  • Consistently demonstrates reliability and punctuality.
  • Presents a professional appearance at all times.
