Position Overview: Green Plains is expanding its Commercial Team, necessitating enhanced analytical capabilities. The Commodity Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting the team's initiatives across various domains, including fundamental and financial analysis, trade assistance, marketing and procurement strategies, financial modeling, and comprehensive risk management. This role involves collaboration with multiple departments such as Logistics, Accounting, Risk, Credit, and Senior Management. The successful candidate will report to a product lead, such as the Director of Ethanol Marketing or Director of Corn Procurement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide analytical support to the Commercial Team through in-depth fundamental and financial analysis, alongside financial modeling and risk management strategy evaluation.
  • Conduct thorough research on diverse commodities, collecting data on supply and demand trends, geopolitical influences, weather conditions, and economic factors affecting commodity pricing.
  • Analyze both historical and real-time data to detect trends, correlations, and anomalies, generating insightful reports for the commercial trading team.
  • Develop and maintain supply and demand forecasts, market trends, and related insights.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, concise reports summarizing market analysis findings, including strategic recommendations for trading and risk management.
  • Engage directly with customers and suppliers in trade support and marketing/procurement functions.
  • Oversee market risk associated with specific customers, vendors, or suppliers.
  • Monitor and assess risk positions, both physical and financial, identifying opportunities to enhance profitability and mitigate losses.
  • Generate profit and loss estimates for various trading positions and portfolios.
  • Implement financial hedges, liaising with external brokers and internal stakeholders to minimize company exposure.
  • Stay informed about the competitive biofuel market landscape and potential regulatory changes that may impact the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including accounting, FP&A, risk, and logistics, to remain updated on market developments and their implications for trading strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and company policies in all activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required, as the above list is not exhaustive.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline.
  • 0 to 3+ years of experience in commodity analysis, trading, or related roles.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, statistical software, data visualization tools).
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and modeling skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic programming knowledge (SQL, VBA, Python, etc.) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • A keen interest in commodities markets and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic trading environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, meet deadlines, and thrive in high-pressure situations.
  • A proactive and results-oriented work ethic.
