Job Overview:
The Service Technician, under the supervision of the Service Manager, is essential in maintaining and repairing semi-trailers to comply with DOT regulations.
This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including diagnosing and resolving issues related to braking systems, hydraulic and air systems for both tractors and trailers, along with refrigeration units for Reefer Technicians.
Further tasks include replacing flooring, rub rails, doors, and door trim, as well as conducting repairs on roofs, panels, nose panels, and upper rails.
Key duties consist of efficiently managing repair time, keeping up-to-date vehicle maintenance files, and ensuring DOT compliance documentation is accurate. The technician is also responsible for the safe operation of company-owned vehicles and equipment.
Additionally, the role requires preparing and maintaining maintenance records in line with company policies and regulations, ensuring a safe and tidy work environment, and following proper safety protocols.
Strong communication skills are vital for effectively updating service personnel on repair progress and maintaining detailed documentation.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should be adaptable to varying weather conditions and flexible with their work hours, as service calls may occur outside of standard business hours.
Excellent communication skills are crucial for interacting with owners, drivers, and dispatchers, providing clear explanations regarding repair situations, timelines, and costs.
Self-motivation is essential, with the ability to independently diagnose and determine necessary repairs, including welding, electrical work, fabrication, sheet metal, and mechanical tasks.
Experience with diesel engines is a plus, and a positive attitude along with a willingness to acquire new skills is highly appreciated.
Other requirements include a valid driver's license with no restrictions, good attendance, adherence to grooming and clothing standards, and possession of the necessary tools. DOT certification in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes is preferred.
This position entails physical demands such as lifting and moving objects of varying weights, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and occasional sitting, as well as exposure to different weather conditions and potentially hazardous materials.
