POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Access Coordinator is responsible for securing and gathering precise patient information to ensure comprehensive financial clearance for various types of admissions across multiple locations. This role involves interviewing patients to ascertain accurate funding source details. The Coordinator evaluates benefit levels, coordinates benefits, and determines coinsurance amounts for hospital and clinic services, utilizing expertise in insurance verification. Responsibilities include performing pre-certification, managing referral coordination, and providing financial counseling. The Coordinator communicates effectively with patients, assists them with service charge payments, and facilitates payment arrangements. Duties also encompass collecting co-pays, coinsurance, and other amounts owed by patients. The role is essential in ensuring proper financial clearance for timely and accurate reimbursement for services rendered at University Health.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required. A minimum of six (6) months of experience in financial counseling within a hospital or physician office setting is necessary. Proficiency in obtaining insurance benefits, pre-certification, and collection of payments is essential. Familiarity with hospital contracts, in-network versus out-of-network benefits, and negotiation skills is preferred. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and ICD 9 coding is advantageous. Proficiency in Spanish is also preferred.
