Job Title: Principal Electro-Optical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electro-Optical Engineer to join our team at eSpace. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in the development and testing of our optical communications systems.

Job Summary:

The Principal Electro-Optical Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing optical communications systems, including laser drivers and receivers, power supplies, TIAs, instrumentation, filters, high-speed DACs/ADCs, digital processors, and interfaces. You will work closely with our engineering teams to ensure the successful integration of these systems into our space-based communications platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop optical communications systems, including laser drivers and receivers, power supplies, TIAs, instrumentation, filters, high-speed DACs/ADCs, digital processors, and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure successful integration of systems into our space-based communications platform.
  • Develop PCBA requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
  • Design and test optical comms related circuits, including schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer.
  • Perform circuit analysis, including power, tolerance, and reliability-related tasks.
  • Verify PCBA design and system integration testing.
  • Provide production manufacturing support as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of experience in opto-electrical circuit design, analysis, simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing.
  • Design proficiency with TOSAs, ROSAs, fiber optics, power supplies, TIAs, instrumentation, filters, high-speed DACs/ADCs, digital processors, and interfaces.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and layout of complex PCBs.
  • Proficiency performing circuit analyses in signal integrity tools, SPICE, and Excel.
  • Proficiency with electronic lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering iron, etc.
  • Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience with optical comms system design.
  • Experience designing for space environments, including radiation impacts and mitigation.
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer.
  • FPGA design skills.
  • C/C++ or Python skills.
