Perioperative Nurse First Assistant

As a Perioperative Nurse First Assistant, you will provide direct assistance to surgeons before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role requires a high level of skill and expertise in surgical techniques and patient care.
Responsibilities- Position patients to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
- Implement physicians' orders to provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate methods, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
- Utilize appropriate techniques to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
- Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
- Apply the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
- Completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program.
- Effective January 1, 2020, the education level for entry into an RNFA program and, subsequently, RNFA practice will be the baccalaureate degree.
- Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty.
- Or an APRN that has completed the RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program.
