About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials and Processes Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Lunar Permanence business unit, you will play a critical role in developing sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

Responsibilities:

  • Broad materials & processes support for metallic materials including additive manufacturing (AM), forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation.
  • Support design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification for space vehicles.
  • Review production drawings for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to the established requirements.
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts for additive manufacturing, including the development of material specifications, process specifications, supplier qualifications, part qualifications, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates.
  • Support the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure part designs are compatible with AM processes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ Years of demonstrated AM M&P Engineering experience on a production flight or space program.
  • Experience with AM aluminum and/or titanium for aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing part qualification test plans for AM components.
  • Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties of aerospace-grade materials, particularly AM materials.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
  • Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company-accessible database.
  • Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience running ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing.
  • Experience planning and executing material allowable or qualification program.
  • Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones.
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization techniques (e.g. SEM, EDS, metallography, ultrasound, micrography, and mechanical testing).

Compensation Range:

CA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80; CO applicants is $125,480.25-$175,672.35; WA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80
