Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Operations Lead to join our team. As a key member of our survey crew, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of surveyors to ensure the successful completion of field survey projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Survey Planning: Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, engineers, and contractor representatives to ensure a thorough understanding of project requirements.
  • Team Management: Assign and monitor work, and provide input for evaluation of members of the field survey crew.
  • Training and Development: Instruct and train survey crew in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Complete daily report cards and field note sketches to ensure accurate and timely documentation of survey activities.
  • Time Estimation: Provide time estimates for specific tasks to ensure efficient project planning and execution.
  • Complex Calculations: Perform complex surveying calculations using calculator, computer, and coordinate geometry software such as AutoCAD.
  • Leadership and Performance Management: Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of the team.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 5+ years' experience as a crew leader.
  • Skills: Advanced knowledge of coordinate geometry and math functions, experience with Total Stations, GPS and data collectors, preferably Trimble or Carlson, and knowledge of all positions on the crew and capability to utilize all equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Local Experience: Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in the field 90% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 10% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
