Precision Machining Specialist: 3rd Shift

About the Role

The Machining CNC Operator plays a vital role in the Wabtec Team, operating the Machining department's CNC Machines. This position requires a strong focus on meeting department production requirements while prioritizing safety and quality in all tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Feed raw materials or parts to semi-automated machines
  • Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers
  • Assist Machinists in setting up machines during the operation of assigned machines when needed
  • Fix issues that may occur during the shift
  • Check output to identify any machine-related mistakes or flaws
  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
  • Debur finished parts
  • Work from a process
  • Foster a Safety-first attitude
  • Follow directions from shift supervisors
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills
  • Always look for process improvements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management
  • Ability to effectively organize a work area to successfully complete tasks
  • Maintain a good attitude to keep a positive and productive environment
  • Willingness to work in a team atmosphere
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs regularly
  • Ability and willingness to wear all PPE required by the Machine Shop
  • Ability to read blueprints to produce consistent and quality parts
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have the ability to learn and develop into a CNC Machinist
  • Requires the ability to work without supervision
  • Must be able to read Micrometer, Blue Prints, and Calipers
Authority and Physical Demands

All WPT employees have the authority to stop the process they are performing, should the process become unsafe or the outputs nonconforming.

  • Employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and have daily face-to-face interaction with other employees.
  • Employee is constantly required to stand for 10 hours at a time, with minimal breaks.
  • Employee is constantly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Employee is frequently required to walk, bend, reach outward, and handle materials and tools.
  • Employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, squat, and/or kneel.
  • Employee is regularly required to see and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.
  • Employee is occasionally required to climb.
  • Employee is required to operate heavy machinery, including cranes.
  • Employee is required to wear safety glasses, steel/composite toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  • The position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shifts to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
Work Environment

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment and occasionally be exposed to cold or hot weather conditions. Frequently exposed to loud noises and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
