Job Summary:

The Animal Control Warden is responsible for enforcing animal control ordinances and laws in McLean County. This position requires a strong understanding of animal behavior, laws, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol designated areas to locate and pick up stray, injured, and/or dead animals.
  • Investigate animal bites to people and other animals.
  • Respond to calls or requests for assistance.
  • Search for animal owners.
  • Investigate complaints and concerns regarding cruelty to animals or animal-related problems.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Provide education to the public about city ordinances and laws pertaining to animal control.
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of related experience working with animals, in an animal control program, with veterinarian practices, or in a related field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, municipal and county officials, representatives of other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to enforce laws applicable to animal control.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, computer, alphanumeric pager, and standard office equipment while performing essential functions.
