Strategic IT Remediation Expert for Public Sector Organizations

About the Role:

BDO is seeking an experienced IT Remediation Consultant to join our Public Sector team, providing expert support to Federal government Agencies. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to leverage their technical expertise and passion for IT Security, Internal Controls, Audit, Technical Remediation, and Business Process Improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough verification and validation of corrective action plans, ensuring system security controls are effectively implemented.
  • Lead or participate in walkthrough meetings, documenting controls and taking detailed notes to inform project decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with the project director to provide specialized knowledge, contributing to the planning of information systems engagements, including audit and SAS70 engagements.
  • Identify and document relevant information systems substantive testing, providing insights into potential information systems risks and testing information system security.
  • Lead audit teams in the actual performance of audit work for specific information systems as requested, delivering high-quality results.
  • Use their educational background, experience, and organizational skills to provide a full range of services to BDO's dynamic public sector client base.
  • Support firm practice, solution, and business development initiatives, driving growth and innovation.
  • Closely coordinate with engagement team management and client leadership on strategy, planning, execution, status, and review processes, ensuring seamless project delivery.
  • Support clients with key financial and budgetary, information technology, and operational transformation initiatives, driving business outcomes.
  • Adapt to changing client environments, meeting client expectations and delivering exceptional results.
  • Manage priorities effectively, initiating correspondence and task completion while supporting multiple efforts through flexible multi-task coordination.
  • Provide summary recommendations to team leadership regarding assigned work stream, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Apply fundamental industry knowledge and standards to support client reviews, improvements, and/or implementations, driving value.
  • Communicate and maintain relationships with key client personnel, ensuring shared understanding of processes, operations, and functions.
  • Prepare presentations, briefings, and participate in client meetings and day-to-day interactions, delivering high-quality results.
  • Communicate effectively with team management through status reporting, demonstrating ownership and accountability for assigned task areas and work products.
  • Establish professional rapport with clients and other organizations, building strong relationships.
  • Support and review work products for technical accuracy, deliverable quality, and overall value to the client, ensuring exceptional results.
  • Stay current with technical skills through relevant training, seminars, and/or conferences, aligning with client needs and industry changes.
  • Support recruiting efforts by identifying potential candidates and participating in interviews, driving talent acquisition.
  • Communicate with well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, interacting effectively with people at all organizational levels.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage independent work products and potentially those of others related to internal and client projects.
  • Serve as a peer 'buddy' to other Public Sector Senior Consultants/Consultants, providing guidance and support.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, required; with a focus in Information Technology, Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance, preferred.

Experience:

  • Two (2) or more years of information technology, operations, management, business, accounting, or finance experience, required.
  • Five (5) or more years of information technology, operations, management, business, accounting, or finance experience, preferred.
  • Experience performing audits and/or assessments of internal controls over financial reporting, IT, grants, insurance, or IT Security in the Federal Government, preferred.
  • Experience with OMB and General Accounting Office (GAO) requirements and how to apply those requirements to complex internal control or assurance related projects throughout their entire life cycle and related phases including planning, assessing, testing, and reporting, preferred.
  • Experience developing strategies for remediation of material weaknesses and other control deficiencies at the Federal level, preferred.
  • Experience in one (1) or more of the following areas: federal accounting standards and the US Standard General Ledger (USSGL), FISCAM, Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), NIST, and OMB Circular A-123, preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Ability to obtain and maintain government agency suitability or security clearance, required.
  • Relevant industry certification, such as CPA, PMP, CGFM, CDFM, or CISA, preferred.

Software:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), required.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suites, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, preferred.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, based on location and experience.
