Position Overview

The Nutritional Services Assistant at PACE Southeast Michigan plays a vital role in the dietary department, engaging in essential tasks such as meal preparation, food service, sanitation, and various responsibilities under the guidance of the Registered Dietitian and Center Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the meal preparation process and is accountable for serving food, beverages, snacks, and nutritional supplements while adhering to portion control and sanitation standards.
  • Prepares meals according to dietary specifications, ensuring timely service of appropriate meals to participants.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and organizes dishes and adaptive feeding tools.
  • Assists in the receipt and storage of food and supplies, ensuring proper labeling for storage items.
  • Maintains equipment functionality and reports any malfunctions to the Registered Dietitian.
  • Adheres to fire safety protocols, infection control measures, and hazardous material handling as per facility guidelines.
  • Complies with Federal and State regulations along with Dietary Department policies and procedures.
  • Follows designated cleaning schedules and performs cleaning tasks as required, ensuring a safe and hygienic work environment.
  • Records daily attendance and prepares tray tickets for service.
  • Participates in training sessions, in-service programs, and staff meetings.
  • Completes additional tasks as directed by the Registered Dietitian and Center Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification from the American National Standards Institution (ANSI) is required.
  • Current CPR certification is necessary.
  • Experience in long-term care or hospital food service is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Outlook and MS Word, are essential.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diet guidelines is advantageous.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Demonstrates respect for the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of participants and colleagues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret instructions effectively.
  • Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have current immunizations after engaging in direct participant contact.
  • Must meet a standardized set of competencies (approved by CMS) after working independently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25 pounds, and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficient in reading and speaking English.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
