WellStar Kennestone Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse specializing in General Cardiac care.

Position Type: Full-time - Night Shift

Blue 6 West is a dedicated medical unit featuring 24 beds, focusing on Thoracic Surgery and Cardiac Telemetry. This unit serves a varied patient population, including those recovering from thoracic surgeries, patients with intricate medical conditions, and individuals facing cardiac challenges along with related comorbidities.

Common admission diagnoses encompass lung cancer nodules, pneumothorax, pleural effusion, emphysema, esophageal diverticulum, mediastinal tumors, rib fractures, and recovery from VAT (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) procedures.

Additionally, Blue 6 West is equipped to manage interventional cardiology patients, including those recuperating from cardiac catheterization, cardiac ablation, pacemaker placements, and transfers from the Electrophysiology (EP) lab.


The nursing professionals on this unit are well-versed in heart rhythm evaluation and receive extensive training in heart failure management.

Our committed healthcare team diligently monitors critical vital signs and swiftly addresses any abnormalities from the baseline or anticipated outcomes.

In summary, Blue 6 West provides continuous observation and care for patients whose conditions do not necessitate Intensive Care Unit placement but still require ongoing surveillance and monitoring.


Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is an integral member of an interdisciplinary team comprising licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive personalized, high-quality, and safe patient care. They operate within a clinical environment overseen by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, along with evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and reinforced by the Wellstar Values.


All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and adhere to the nursing practice standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards established by the American Nurses Association.

As a member of the patient services team, individuals are expected to uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Conducts the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in clinical care delivery utilizing evidence-based practice, employing analytical and critical thinking to ensure individualized care; coordinating care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes B. Delivers relationship-based, patient-centered care that aligns with population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) while adapting service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity C. Consistently collaborates with patients and significant others (as appropriate) utilizing suitable methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report; interdisciplinary rounds; timely patient education; keeping patients and significant others informed and prioritizing the patient's goals in the care plan). D. Practices in accordance with current clinical practice standards. Teamwork and Collaboration A. Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds, case reviews, etc.); timely documentation completion and fostering a respectful, inclusive clinical environment B. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members. C. Engages in and supports performance improvement initiatives involving all stakeholders, research, and research utilization to enhance safe, quality patient care, including initiating and/or leading such activities while actively supporting and participating in shared governance at all levels within the system. Professional Development and Initiative A. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific education. B. Acts as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students from all disciplines) to ensure a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment. Evidence-Based Practice and Research A. Advocates for evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing. Participates in activities such as value analysis as part of the decision-making process in evaluating patient care products. B. Upholds all healthcare system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies outlined in this job description and professional association, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements and standards, ensuring adherence to goals such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems' safety absolutes C. Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice, consults appropriate experts, and utilizes suitable resources and evidence to address practice questions. Resources and Support A. Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum while delivering direct patient care. B. Contributes to the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other healthcare team members to achieve optimal practice outcomes (i.e., reduction in readmission rates; avoidable days; adverse events; etc.). C. Supports the efficient and effective use of human and material resources.

Required Minimum Education
Associate's Degree in nursing or graduation from an accredited/approved nursing school Required
