Position Summary

This role is an individual contributor position within the Accounting and Finance team, focusing on operational and financial analysis alongside related accounting functions.

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this position collaborates closely with the Accounting leadership team on various financial tasks, including derivative and inventory management, with a strong focus on understanding the underlying transactions in our operational and financial reporting systems. This role is also responsible for preparing various financial analyses pertinent to the organization’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop comprehensive financial models and analytics.
  • Ensure data integrity and challenge inconsistencies.
  • Enhance accuracy by aligning key drivers and identifying root causes of variances.
  • Assist management in executing strategic initiatives and process improvements.
  • Support the preparation and submission of analyses for the annual audit.
  • Collaborate within a team to ensure accurate transaction accounting.
  • Deliver exceptional service through clear and professional communication with colleagues and management.

Financial Close Activities:

  • Prepare variance analyses comparing actual results to planned outcomes.
  • Draft supporting journal entries related to gross profit.
  • Comprehend operational transactions, including derivatives, to support financial reporting and analysis.
  • Investigate atypical transactions and their effects on gross profit.
  • Work with the Risk team to understand Marked to Market (MtM) balances affecting gross profit transactions and reporting.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for management and the Board of Directors.

Audit Support:

Assist management by preparing documentation for audit requests as necessary.

Special Projects:

Conduct special projects and ad hoc analyses as requested by the Accounting and Finance leadership team.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial analysis.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment.
  • High level of personal initiative and self-motivation.
  • Strong grasp of financial analysis and modeling, with an emphasis on understanding underlying data.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and experience with reporting packages; familiarity with Management Reporter and Power BI is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take on responsibilities in complex accounting areas, bridging operational intent with financial reporting outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships across all organizational levels, requiring a positive and adaptable attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently to resolve issues.
  • Ability to understand the broader organizational context while interpreting detailed processes.
  • Experience with Right Angle and Microsoft Great Plains is a plus.
