Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate Director, State Affairs to join our Policy & Permitting Team covering New York and New England. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving new legislative and regulatory policies, expanding relationships with key stakeholders, and developing strategies to increase or stabilize our ability to sell our product and reach customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement state legislative and regulatory policy strategies that support our business objectives, including securing and stabilizing offtake revenue, a favorable tax/regulatory environment, and permitting and siting regulations for our pipeline of proposed projects.
  • Identify, establish, and manage strategic relationships with state officials resulting in meaningful partnerships focused on solar and storage infrastructure operational support and development.
  • Inform and educate internal departments on policies at the state level that may have an impact on our business, working closely with internal business units, including Project Development, Power Marketing, Fleet, M&A, Project Finance, Legal, and other Policy team colleagues.
  • Engage with trade associations and build and lead coalitions using 3rd party analysis and communications strategies to influence and advocate for our business objectives.
  • Manage lobbyists to influence outcomes towards our favor, ensuring we are well represented on important and impactful issues with legislative and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
  • BA/BS degree required; Advanced degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in energy policy.
  • 5+ years of state regulatory and/or legislative experience with a clear track record of success executing on policy campaigns.
  • Experience managing and working collaboratively with lobbyists, trade associations, other businesses, and consultants.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain productive external partnerships, including ones with trade associations, other companies, and lawmakers.
  • Direct experience in project development, a utility, and/or government is a plus.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize and effectively communicate the results into conclusions and recommendations.
  • Self-motivated and driven with a high level of initiative.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and diligent.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced business environment, and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Approximately 30% travel.
Location

Preference for candidate to be based in New York/New England area with preference to proximity to state capitols.
