This role is part of an Integrated Product Team for a GE Aviation Advanced Military Engine New Product Initiative (NPI) Program. The Staff Engineer will be responsible for guiding the technical design and execution of a new military product design, leading projects and programs in Exhaust Systems design, driving business process improvements to enhance team efficiency. This role will interact daily with a multidisciplinary team of engineers including Mechanical, Aerodynamics, Heat Transfer, Material Sciences, and Engine Systems. The Staff Engineer will be required to push the boundaries of what is possible with the latest technologies and materials developed at GE Aviation. This role will deliver significant impact to both short-term and long-term business goals.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership: Lead and execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of select hardware using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Exhaust Systems Expertise: Develop specialized knowledge in exhaust systems discipline. Serve as best practice/quality resource. Have awareness of latest technical developments. Contribute towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Collaboration and Communication: Have in-depth knowledge of best practices and how assigned responsibilities integrate with others; have working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market. Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.
- Team Leadership: Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explain difficult or sensitive information; work to build consensus. Develop persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
- Manufacturing and Supply Chain: Team with Manufacturing Programs and Supply Chain within both internal and external vendors to ensure hardware is produced on-time and with sufficient quality.
- Leadership Communication: Communicate to the leadership team, including leaders both internal to GE Aviation and with the external military customer.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher.
- Advanced Education: Master's degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Existing Security Clearance: Existing US Government security clearance
- Strong Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills
- Leadership Skills: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Technical Aptitude: Strong technical aptitude related to components and systems of increasing complexity
- Problem-Solving Skills: Effective problem identification and solution skills
- Project Management Skills: Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
- Hardware Ownership Experience: Hardware ownership experience
- Gas Turbine Engine Experience: Gas turbine engine exhaust and/or hot structures design experience
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with NX, Teamcenter, and ANSYS
