PACU Nurse Leader Opportunity

UPMC Hamot is seeking a skilled and experienced PACU Nurse Leader to join our team. As a Senior Professional Staff Nurse, you will play a key role in the care delivery team, setting care standards, managing patient care, and ensuring quality nursing.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
  • Formulate daily goals and care plans with patients as partners, considering their holistic needs.
  • Practice solid communication skills, articulating patient conditions and negotiating care changes.
  • Ensure comprehensive patient documentation to promote caregiver communication.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.
  • Incorporate goals from national organizations and health systems to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Build healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues for a compassionate experience.
  • Identify opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement.
  • Regularly apply evidence-based practice.
  • Lead or participate in teams launching patient care innovations or supporting a healthy workforce.
  • Analyze situations to identify learning opportunities and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Support continuous learning by sharing research and presenting on the unit.
  • Serve as a role model in areas like clinical expertise, teaching, and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide feedback to healthcare team members and participate in peer review.
  • Promote changes enhancing patient care quality and unit environment.
  • Actively participate in shared governance and hospital-wide councils.
  • Build and mends relationships within a healthy workplace framework.
  • Role models cultural awareness and addresses horizontal violence and impairment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation for promotion.
  • Maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluations.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Work productively and effectively in a complex environment with multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exhibit exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Lead others in applying the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Annual completion of professional contributions selected from department, hospital, or system goals, approved by Unit Director.
  • UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained, or certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
