Job Description

The Chief Development Officer is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and executing all real estate development projects. This role will be the primary decision-maker in all aspects of the development process, from due diligence to project completion.

This position will have oversight of both the Development and Construction departments, with a focus on implementing institutional-quality processes, scaling and leading the departments, and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate development, with experience in all phases of development on high-value projects across the United States.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and participate in regular pipeline calls with the development team to ensure proper tracking and execution of proposed projects.
  • Lead the project planning process by identifying key development hurdles, zoning/entitlement processes, and assist in project design.
  • Responsible for creating, tracking, and executing key development milestone dates.
  • Participate in feasibility analysis and collaborate on the creation of investment committee memorandums and project business plans.
  • Manage the due diligence budget in conjunction with the investment team and oversee all due diligence efforts, including the selection of key consultants and evaluation of various reports.
  • Responsible for overseeing all legal documentation on each project opportunity and collaborating with internal team members on the creation of a development pro forma.
  • Lead, oversee, and mentor junior team members for the on-going growth of their careers by providing meaningful opportunities to learn and engage in the development process.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Management, or Construction Management. Master's degree in Real Estate Development, Construction Management, or MBA preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of real estate experience, prior experience with real estate developer required.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Direct experience with institutional-quality industrial development processes and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; creative thinker who can problem solve and foresee development issues prior to them arising.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact private equity investors both in-person and via email.
  • Highly detail-oriented with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a high workload.
