Position Overview:

As a vital member of the patient access center, the Healthcare Access Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth daily operations and enhancing the patient experience.

This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients and customers reaching out to UCR Health. Under the guidance of the supervisor, the coordinator will engage in a comprehensive range of call center responsibilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing prompt and courteous assistance to callers.
  • Managing a high volume of incoming calls through screening and triaging.
  • Verifying patient eligibility based on financial and geographic criteria.
  • Scheduling and canceling patient appointments in accordance with insurance and assigned providers.
  • Routing messages to appropriate departmental pools and updating patient demographic information.

This position may involve remote work and assignments at various UCR Health clinic locations, with potential shifts that include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Initial training will require onsite presence for a minimum of six weeks, after which the role is intended to transition to a remote format.

The full salary range for the Healthcare Access Coordinator is $34.85 per hour. Salary offers are determined based on factors such as education, licensure, certifications, experience, and organizational needs.

Applicants must possess current work authorization to accept a position with UCR. Currently, UCR is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for staff.


Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
  • Preferred: Medical Assistant Diploma.
  • Preferred: Associate's degree in business or a related field.
Experience Requirements:
  • Required: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a call center or front office role with responsibilities related to patient check-in.
  • Required: At least one (1) year of experience in a medical clinic or hospital setting, focusing on insurance verification and patient financial responsibilities.
  • Required: Experience in an insurance company, with third-party payers, and/or in credit/collections, along with proficiency in standard office equipment and computers. A typing speed of 35 wpm and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) is also required.

Special Conditions:
Overtime may be required.

  • Ability to maintain an appropriate work pace relative to workload.
  • Capability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to address and resolve customer complaints.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
