GEICO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Attorney I or Attorney II to join our California region. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for defending lawsuits against GEICO insureds and representing the company in subrogation, Uninsured Motorist (UM), and Underinsured Motorist (UIM) cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Defend lawsuits: Conduct thorough research and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to defend GEICO in court.
- Represent GEICO: Represent the company in subrogation, UM, and UIM cases, and in the discretion of the Managing Attorney, in courts of limited/unlimited jurisdiction.
- Research and prepare: Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support GEICO's position in court.
- Meet deadlines: Meet deadlines to respond to pleadings and correspondence, and adhere to the GEICO Code of Conduct, company policies, and operating principles.
- Travel: Must be able to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
- Documentation: Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, and professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees of the organization.
- Communication: Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills.
- Education and Experience: Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in California and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable. Must have a minimum of one to five years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury.
