Job Title: Business License Enforcement Supervisor

Join the City of Compton as a Business License Enforcement Supervisor and play a vital role in ensuring compliance with business licensing regulations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising daily business license enforcement operations, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing and correcting citations, and investigating personnel complaints.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily business license enforcement operations, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work.
  • Review and correct citations for court proceedings, approve employee leave requests, and investigate personnel complaints.
  • Patrol the City and monitor commercial properties for code violations related to proper licensing, conforming uses, and illegal business operations.
  • Assist business owners in obtaining or renewing business licenses, respond to public complaints regarding alleged business license violations, and prepare and send notices of violation to offenders.
  • Track and maintain documentation regarding complaints and violations, update related records and logs, and perform re-inspections of code violations and determine appropriate compliance actions.
  • Compile and present case documentation for prosecution as required, assist the City Attorney's Office in the prosecution of code violations, and conduct research and interpret City business licensing codes.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Licensing Division budget, including revenue forecasting, and draft clear and concise written reports related to business licensing activities.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of code enforcement, business licensing, or law enforcement experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
