Job Title: Senior Building Inspector

Join the City of Compton, CA team as a Senior Building Inspector and play a crucial role in ensuring public safety and health through effective building code enforcement.

Job Summary:

The Senior Building Inspector will be responsible for supervising building inspection activities and operations, including plan review, building inspection, and permitting. This role will also involve enforcing building and safety codes, regulations, and standards, as well as monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily building inspection activities and operations, including plan review, building inspection, and permitting.
  • Enforce building and safety codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Authorize the issuance of commercial and residential building and construction permits and Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Review and approve code enforcement actions and reports.
  • Investigate code enforcement complaints and issue violation notices.
  • Respond to requests for information and complaints.
  • Provide technical information on interpretation of City codes.
  • Coordinate department activities with other departments, outside agencies, and organizations.
  • Represent the Department to other City departments, elected officials, and outside agencies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Five years of plan review and inspection experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Certification as a Combination Dwelling Inspector.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.
