Job Summary

Under the direction of senior management, the Landscape Supervisor will oversee the planning, scheduling, and supervision of tree crews engaged in tree and landscape maintenance within a designated geographic area. The successful candidate will maintain established standards, resolve landscape problems, and perform related work as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, assign, and supervise the work of tree or grounds crews, including tree crews, gardeners, irrigators, equipment operators, and grounds workers.
  • Work with crew foremen to establish daily work schedules and review maintenance problems, inspect completed and work-in-progress.
  • Maintain personnel and attendance records for crew members and participate in training and safety programs.
  • Provide feedback to employees throughout their review period and during performance reviews.
  • Evaluate personnel and follow up on all requests for service, assign personnel to correct problems, discuss problems with residents by telephone and in person, and note action taken on each request.
  • Drive a vehicle to meetings, workshops, and other job-related responsibilities.
  • Regular attendance is required, and all duties will be performed on-site for the community.
  • Work effectively with co-workers, customers, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner, listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others, keeping commitments, keeping others informed of work progress, timetables, and issues, addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions, addressing others by name, title, or other respectful identifier, and respecting the diversity of our workforce in actions, words, and deeds.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate Degree, including major coursework in horticulture.
  • Considerable supervisory experience in ground maintenance work or an equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following:
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
    • Knowledge of computer and applicable software programs.
    • Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary precautions associated with the area of assignment.
    • Knowledge of field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
    • Ability to plan and supervise the work of maintenance personnel performing various tasks in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
    • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to understand and relate to the needs of senior citizens.
    • Ability to deal with the public in difficult and general work situations.
Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
