Role Summary:
The Advanced Clinical Nutrition Specialist collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver evidence-based medical nutrition therapy that aligns with patient-centered medical objectives. Key responsibilities encompass the application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), including comprehensive nutrition assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and the ongoing evaluation of patient progress. This role requires extensive knowledge in clinical practice, supported by years of experience and/or specialty certifications as outlined in the qualifications below. The Advanced Clinical Nutrition Specialist also engages in resource management to ensure cost-effective nutrition care and actively participates in quality improvement initiatives to maintain safe and effective nutrition services.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough nutritional assessments utilizing standardized practices and critical thinking to identify individual nutrient needs based on age, medical conditions, and personal requirements.
2. Serve as a vital resource for the clinical team, facilitating communication between various medical specialties and ancillary services.
3. Support compliance with accreditation standards from relevant agencies to enhance the quality and safety of care provided.
4. Participate in medical rounds, patient care conferences, and continuing education sessions, contributing to quality improvement efforts and cross-training opportunities.
5. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans, actively participating in discharge planning and patient education initiatives.
6. Lead and manage departmental tasks as assigned, ensuring accurate documentation of all nutrition care activities in medical records.
7. Create and update evidence-based protocols within the clinical practice area, providing training to ensure adherence to current medical nutrition therapy guidelines.
8. Identify professional development needs and mentor colleagues in clinical practice, including acting as a preceptor for nutrition interns.
9. Engage in clinical research and quality improvement projects to enhance the effectiveness of nutrition services and improve patient outcomes.

Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or college, with coursework accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). A Master’s degree in a related field is required for new graduates seeking licensure after the specified date.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the relevant state board. Certain positions may allow for licensure to be obtained shortly after hire.
Professional Experience Requirements:
A minimum of three years as a Registered Dietitian, with at least two years in a clinical specialty, or five years of general nutrition experience in a tertiary care setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

*In-depth knowledge of medical nutrition therapy.
*Ability to implement Motivational Interviewing techniques.
