Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Program Coordinator to join our team at the City of Reno. As a key member of our recreation team, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating various operations, services, and activities of an assigned recreation program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate various operations, services, and activities of an assigned recreation program, including aquatics, indoor centers, child and youth programs, adult and youth league sports, or special City events.
  • Implement program goals and objectives, and oversee assigned part-time and seasonal staff.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility, including scheduling, record-keeping, and budget management.
  • Coordinate and promote assigned recreational programs and activities, and participate in recruiting, selecting, training, motivating, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of assigned facilities, including scheduling maintenance and securing facilities.
  • Collect and account for program fees and registration, and maintain appropriate financial records and prepare state and federally mandated reports.
  • Coordinate and supervise special events, including contacting local corporations to sponsor and/or participate, and compiling and distributing statistics of special events.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level coursework in recreation, leisure services, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience supporting the activities and operations of a recreation program, including one year of administrative responsibility.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and at indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. Incumbents may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and may have some contact with chemical agents used in pool maintenance. Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces. Extensive public contact. Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
