Position Title: Surgical Technologist

Department: Outpatient Services

Reports To: Outpatient Services Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the surgical team, assisting in patient care and ensuring a sterile environment in the Surgery Suite. This position involves preparing necessary instruments and supplies for surgical procedures while adhering to aseptic principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare and organize surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for various procedures.
  2. Exhibit proficiency in the handling and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
  3. Assist in the positioning and draping of patients to ensure optimal conditions for surgery.
  4. Accurately identify and manage medications within the sterile field.
  5. Perform scrub duties, including the handling of instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
  6. Ensure proper specimen care during surgical procedures.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and organization of instruments within the Surgery Department.
  8. Adhere to sanitation and safety standards, including sterilization and disinfection protocols.
  9. Foster effective communication with patients, medical staff, and colleagues.
  10. Contribute to cost management efforts within the department.
  11. Assist in training and orienting new staff members.
  12. Uphold infection control guidelines through aseptic techniques.
  13. Participate in mandatory safety and infection control programs.
  14. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all relevant regulations.
  15. Engage in ongoing education and training related to compliance and best practices.
  16. Exhibit professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee product representatives and observers in the Surgery Suite.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a surgical setting is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent qualification. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Certification for scrub technicians is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, and follow both written and verbal instructions. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with patients and staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires frequent standing, sitting, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds. Employees may also need to walk and balance during their duties.
