Job Title: Asphalt Quality Control Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled Asphalt Quality Control Supervisor to join our team at Pyramid Paving & Contracting Co. This is a full-time position that requires a strong understanding of asphalt mixes, materials, production processes, and testing methods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor material inventories and quantity projections for projects on the books, assist in coordination of logistics.
  • Maintain AASHTO proficiency participation, assessment and design lab requirements as per the MDOT HMA production manual.
  • Work with MDOT and their representatives to coordinate scheduling, sample frequency, and specifications applicable per project.
  • Work with various consulting firms and county personal to coordinate scheduling, sampling frequency, and specification applicable per project.
  • Assist in coordination of binder grades and suppliers provided to produce project specifications.
  • Supervise and lead the asphalt lab quality control team, ensuring accurate and timely testing of asphalt products.
  • Oversee daily lab operations, including the preparation, testing, and analysis of asphalt samples.
  • Travel in Company vehicle between labs in Essexville and West Branch, as well as to job sites.
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards.
  • Review test results and make necessary adjustments to ensure product quality meets or exceeds specifications.
  • Create and test mix designs according to MDOT specifications.
  • Train and mentor lab technicians on proper testing procedures and quality control methods.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records of test results, reports, and lab activities.
  • Collaborate with the production and construction teams to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, regulations, and advancements in asphalt technology.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized lab environment.
Requirements:
  • Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent with extensive relevant experience. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Material Science, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in asphalt quality control or a similar role in construction materials testing. Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a lab environment is a plus.
  • Certifications: Asphalt Quality Control certifications (e.g., Asphalt Institute or other relevant certifications). MDOT QC/QA Certification. MDOT Aggregate level 1 Certification. MDOT Aggregate level 2 Certification. MDOT Mix Design Certification.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of asphalt mixes, materials, production processes, and testing methods. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Proficiency with lab testing equipment and software. Analytical thinking with attention to detail. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve quality-related issues quickly. Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more and stand for extended periods of time.
