Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Head Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Outpost Space. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and building mechanical systems for our Ferryall and Carryall spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop large spacecraft structural systems, including thermal protection systems and textiles.
  • Lead a mechanical engineering team and ensure proper management processes, including mentoring and coaching.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and management to ensure successful project execution.
  • Develop and conduct structural development, acceptance, and qualification tests.
  • Integrate mechanical systems with electrical systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or related field.
  • Proven track record of designing, analyzing, and building mechanical systems that have flown in space.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and building mechanical spacecraft systems.
  • At least 2 years leading one or more mechanical engineers.

Additional Skills:

  • Full system mechanical/structural analysis.
  • FEA Analysis, particularly NASTRAN/Femap.
  • Thermal protection systems.
  • Textiles.
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical devices, gear trains, actuators, motors, valves, regulators, or other fluid and position control devices.
  • Experience with Solidworks, Solidworks PDM, configuration management, and GD&T.
  • Experience in system level thermal analysis (Thermal Desktop or similar).
