Nursing Attendant-Central Nursing Service-Day Shift

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Attendant-Central Nursing Service-Day Shift to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As a key member of our Central Nursing Service, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in implementing the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse.
- Maintain an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit.
- Assist with admission/transfer/discharge of patients, including orienting patients to the hospital environment, providing toileting supplies, and assisting patients with removing clothes and safeguarding personal property.
- Prepare bedside units to receive patients and assist with discharges, including assisting patients to dress and pack personal belongings.
- Provide basic hygiene to patients, including bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, and shaving.
- Prepare patients for meals, including correctly positioning patients for eating/tube feedings and assisting patients with utensils and food items.
- Perform and assist with enema procedures, collect specimens as directed by the RN, and inform the RN of any audible clinical alarms.
- Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients, and assist with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures.
- Change linens in accordance with policy and as necessary, and take and electronically record blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, and respiration per care level standard and as directed by the RN.
- Report abnormalities to the RN and weigh patients and electronically record on admission, as ordered, and/or as directed by the RN.
- Measure and record oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric, and other drainage onto the I&O record (form or electronic), calculate 8-hour totals, and empty drainage bags.
- Perform postmortem care and perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints, per policy and as directed.
- Report any changes observed in the patient's condition to the RN and respond to and meet patient/family needs and customer concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding.
- Establish effective, caring relationships with staff, patients, family, and other members of the healthcare team, and maintain competence through in-service and educational programs.
- Attend staff meetings and review departmental standards for a safe and uncluttered environment of care in patient rooms, including removing excessive furniture, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with supply and equipment management of patient, procedure, and supply rooms per departmental standards, and maintain cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries as assigned.
- Perform other duties such as errands, relieving other units, bringing stretchers, and assisting other members of the healthcare team, as directed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience.
- BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification required upon entry to the position.
- Working knowledge of English evident in verbal, reading, and writing abilities; other language an asset.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
