Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Counsel to lead our Medical Evaluation Board team. As a key member of our legal team, you will be responsible for providing expert legal guidance and support to our medical evaluation boards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Medical Evaluation Board Counsel: Provide overall supervisory assignments and ensure completed work is accurate with respect to legal citation, treatment of facts and other procedural and substantive aspects.
  • Case Review and Assignment: Review and assign cases, thoroughly reviewing each case file and Soldier's medical records to evaluate potential and likely outcomes.
  • Research and Analysis: Research and analyze all relevant medical, legal, and factual issues, and prepare legal memoranda in connection with medical evaluations and medical board proceedings.
  • Liaison and Communication: Act as liaison for the Regional OSC and Staff Judge Advocate or Center/Command Judge Advocate, within their assigned area of responsibility.
  • Client Data and Records: Ensure non-lawyer assistants maintain client data and records in accordance with all laws, regulations and policies.
  • Education and Explanation: Provide education and explanation of the mechanics of the Army Physical Disability Evaluation System to Soldiers, Warrior Transition Unit and commanders and staff health care practitioners, administrative personnel, and civilian and military attorneys.
Requirements
  • Strong Knowledge: Strong knowledge of medical, legal, and factual issues related to the Army Physical Disability Evaluation System.
  • Excellent Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
