About the Role

The Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) is seeking an exceptional and inclusive leader to serve as Chief People Officer (CPO). This strategic role will support the mission of the Council by working with the CEO and other key stakeholders to promote a strong sense of belonging for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for HR and Volunteer Training & Development teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values.
  • Collaborate with senior management to assess and enhance diversity and inclusion programs, establishing best practices and removing barriers.
  • Serve as a GSUSA thought partner and liaison for national DEIRJ plans.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with experts in the DEIRJ field.
  • Directly supervise one (1) full-time HR Staff (HR analyst) and one (1) full-time Adult Training and Development Manager.
  • Create and implement strategy plans that promote diversity and enable an inclusive culture.
  • Own and advance GSWISE's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging vision and strategy.
  • Develop strategies to embed DEIRJ principles into HR policies, practices, and programs.
  • Implement performance management systems to promote accountability and transparency in DEIRJ and cultural competency.
  • Benchmark milestones to measure effectiveness of strategy and outcomes.
  • Establish metrics and KPIs to monitor membership growth and engagement efforts.
  • Design and oversee initiatives to enhance DEIRJ acumen and cultural competency across the organization.
  • Support change management efforts for staff/volunteer training ensuring adherence to DEIRJ best practices.
  • Develop strategies for recruiting, retaining, and advancing a diverse workforce reflective of our communities.
  • Foster a positive employee experience through effective communication, recognition programs, and initiatives promoting belonging and shared purpose.
  • Ensure HR practices comply with legal requirements and mitigate risks related to DEIRJ, discrimination, harassment, and equity issues.
  • Manage the HR budget effectively, allocating resources to support DEIRJ initiatives and strategic objectives.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience with a proven track record in executing HR responsibilities.
  • HR adjacent experience preferred, with at least 4 years specifically focused on DEIRJ strategy development and implementation.
  • Expertise in strategic planning, aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Strong understanding of cultural competency, anti-racism, and systemic oppression, with a demonstrated commitment to advancing DEIRJ principles.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, adept at building trust, influencing stakeholders, and driving change across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to lead diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives effectively.
  • High emotional intelligence, capable of navigating complex organizational dynamics and sensitive issues with empathy and professionalism.
  • Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations is preferred.
  • Highly accountable with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
