The Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments (MOTA) is seeking a highly qualified individual to lead the Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS). This pivotal role involves overseeing the comprehensive management and operational functions of the department, ensuring the delivery of exceptional forensic science services.

The DFS is dedicated to providing timely, accurate, and reliable forensic analysis across various scientific disciplines, including biological, chemical, and trace evidence. The department serves as a crucial resource for public health, law enforcement, and the justice system, producing independent analyses that uphold the integrity of forensic science.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a recognized expert and advisor to the Mayor on forensic science matters.
  • Lead and manage the agency, providing strategic direction and oversight to staff.
  • Allocate and manage the agency's budget, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Provide expert testimony in judicial proceedings and collaborate with legal entities.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee the establishment of safety and quality assurance protocols within the department.
  • Conduct research and analysis on governmental policies affecting forensic science operations.
  • Ensure high standards of quality and integrity in forensic services, maintaining necessary accreditations.
  • Prepare and present policy papers and evaluation findings to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Proven management experience in a government or private sector environment.
  • Extensive experience in forensic science, including supervisory roles.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance techniques and program effectiveness assessment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for diverse audiences.
