Job Summary:
In a High Reliability Organization, the Infection Preventionist plays a critical role in monitoring and implementing Infection Surveillance, Prevention, and Control. This position is responsible for facilitating the local infection prevention and control program under the direction of the Infection Prevention or Quality Leader. The Infection Preventionist serves as a resource on infection risk assessment, surveillance, prevention, and control strategies. They act as a resource to the management team in reference to guidelines for infection prevention and control. The Infection Preventionist utilizes epidemiology principles to monitor the delivery of patient care and investigate potential outbreaks of infection. They assist with the facilitation of action plans to mitigate the risk of infection spread through collaboration with leadership. The Infection Preventionist maintains knowledge of external regulatory standards related to infection surveillance, prevention, and control and contributes to the hospital's policies and practices, as related to infection prevention and control per CDC and State guidelines.

Responsibilities:
The Infection Preventionist meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. They must be proficient in computer skills using EXCEL, PowerPoint, MSOffice, and Flowchart tools. The Infection Preventionist must communicate effectively to different audiences. They must be knowledgeable on High-Reliability Principles and PDSA methodology. The Infection Preventionist is responsible for evaluating and improving health care processes and care transitions to advance the efficient, effective, and safe care of defined populations. They leverage the organization's analytic environment to help guide data-driven decision-making and inform quality improvement initiatives. The Infection Preventionist directs organization-wide processes for evaluating, monitoring, and improving compliance with internal and external requirements. They lead the organization's processes to prepare for, participate in, and follow up on regulatory, accreditation, and certification surveys and activities. The Infection Preventionist cultivates a safe healthcare environment by promoting safe practices, nurturing a just culture, and improving processes that detect, mitigate, or prevent harm. They direct activities that support compliance with organization-wide voluntary, mandatory, and contractual requirements for data acquisition, analysis, reporting, and improvement. The Infection Preventionist engages in the healthcare quality profession with a commitment to practicing ethically, enhancing one's competence, and advancing the field.

Requirements:
The Infection Preventionist must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other health-related field. Associate degree nurses may also be considered. The Infection Preventionist must have 3 years of healthcare or public health experience, with prior Infection Prevention experience preferred. They must be certified as a CBIC CIC within 3 years of hire. The Infection Preventionist works a 5-day, 8-hour schedule as a full-time employee.
