Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Team Scientist to join our team at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, in collaboration with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and submitting research proposals, ensuring scientific and regulatory milestones are met, and publishing original studies in refereed journals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and submit research proposals to secure external research funding from agencies such as the NIH, VA, NIDILRR, DoD, and NSF.
  2. Ensure that scientific and regulatory milestones of specific projects are met.
  3. Publish original studies in refereed journals that advance our understanding of motor control and translation science linked to neurologic illness.
  4. Demonstrate leadership activity in professional organizations such as the Society for Neuroscience and the International Society for Neural Control of Movement.
  5. Contribute to the education of highly qualified personnel, including graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, medical students, and residents.
  6. Participate in and collaborate on Department activities, as requested by the Department Chair.
Requirements
  1. Ph.D. in a scientific discipline from an accredited school and successful completion of a postdoctoral fellowship.
  2. Minimum 2 years of related experience with an expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts.
  3. Reputation as an emerging leader in the field with sustained performance and accomplishment.
  4. Uses professional concepts in accordance with institute objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
  5. Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
  6. Works on complex problems and designs/conducts research projects in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  7. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  8. Requires proficiency in writing to prepare grant proposals, research reports, and other publications, and explain complex results to a lay audience.
  9. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with other staff members and fellow researchers.
  10. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other lower-level personnel.
  11. Commitment to teaching and teaching ability are requirements.
