Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team. As our Respiratory Therapist, you will evaluate the respiratory needs of your patients and develop and implement the Respiratory Care Plan for your patients. Your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Applying and operating acute care ventilators used for continuous short and long-term mechanical ventilation
  • Maintaining all department and hospital records and entering accurate information into the hospital computer for the therapy as given
  • Performing procedures with care and empathy for our patients

Requirements:

  • Current Florida Registered Respiratory Therapist licensure
  • American Heart Association BLS health care provider required. ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire
  • Graduate of Respiratory Care program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving equipment
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations
  • Customer service abilities, including effective listening skills

What you will do in this role:

  • Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for and response to respiratory therapy
  • Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy
  • Assist with placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation
  • Monitor patient for therapeutic response and notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response
  • Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients and respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required
What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Associate Degree
  • RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT/RCP) or State Registered Respiratory Therapist
