Job OverviewWe're seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Engineer to join our team in the Northeast Region of the United States. As a Commissioning Engineer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our clients' utility substation protection and control systems.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and perform commissioning activities for various utility substation protection and control systems, ensuring compliance with TRC's and client requirements, budgets, and schedules.
- Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents to identify potential issues and develop effective solutions.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem analysis for protection and control systems, including application errors, drawing errors, wiring errors, and equipment malfunctions.
- Participate in project meetings, including kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, and lessons learned meetings.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports, documenting project progress, issues, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
- Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, and other assigned project documentation.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation techniques for utility systems and equipment, creating a Site Risk Assessment to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration.
- Ensure all applicable tests and commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system, with all test results recorded, filed, and distributed properly.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems from an accredited school or university, with related experience in testing and commissioning services.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer's drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication, and basic understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and drawings.
- Prior professional experience in medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment, with basic apparatus testing and interpretation of test results.
- Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits, with commissioning activities and interpretation of results.
- Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS, and Goose Messaging is highly preferred.
- Current US work eligibility and a valid USA driver's license issued by the state of residence are required.
- Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time and work flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and night work.
