Legal Advisor for Marine Conservation

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking a dedicated Attorney Advisor to contribute to the safeguarding of our oceans and marine ecosystems.

This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including collaboration with federal and state law enforcement agencies to investigate and address breaches of marine conservation legislation, such as the Magnuson-Stevens Act, National Marine Sanctuaries Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and Endangered Species Act.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle cases primarily from the Northeast region while providing support for other NOAA Enforcement Section offices.
  • Offer guidance on legislative and regulatory matters.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Justice on significant criminal cases.
  • Deliver training to NOAA law enforcement personnel and partners.
  • Engage with the Department of State to formulate effective international enforcement strategies against illegal fishing.

The incumbent will report to the Deputy Section Chief of the Enforcement Section within NOAA's Office of General Counsel, which provides legal counsel on various issues, including U.S. and international fisheries, marine mammals, and the preservation of coastal and marine sanctuaries.

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on marine conservation efforts through legal expertise and collaboration.
