Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician

Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) plays a vital role in providing support and care to clients with mental health illnesses, substance use disorders, and co-occurring illnesses. As a BHT, you will be responsible for monitoring client behavior, assisting with daily activities, and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor client behavior and report any concerns to the appropriate authority.
  • Provide positive reinforcement and support to clients, utilizing approved behavior modification techniques.
  • Conduct and participate in basic life skills activities, such as processing admissions and discharges.
  • Complete required program documentation and reports, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Document clients' activities, behavior patterns, and changes in behavior patterns.
  • Ensure clients adhere to established schedules and routines.
  • Collect urine specimens and complete paperwork and/or laboratory paperwork, if required.
  • Conduct security/safety checks, monitor visitors/clients for contraband, and conduct searches.
  • Perform general office and public contact duties, such as answering telephones and greeting visitors.
  • Participate in meetings and converse with staff on client progress or lack of progress.
  • Perform general cleaning responsibilities when needed.
  • Attend training/in-services as required.
  • Utilize approved de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Transport clients to other agencies, hospitals, homes, community activities, and AA meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with CARF, AHCA, DCF, DJJ, and/or DOC standards and security safeguards.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of related human services experience preferred.
  • Preference will be given to those who are certified as Behavioral Health Technicians.
Physical Requirements:
  • Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day.
  • Able to lift minimum 10 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs.
  • Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence, and presentation.
